2020 Summer Internship

South Bend, Indiana, United States | Full-time

Organization Description

enFocus is a nonprofit that builds better communities through talent attraction, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We bring an “entrepreneurial focus” to communities by employing recent graduates to work on innovation projects in our Fellowship program. enFocus Fellows address our communities’ toughest challenges by working with sponsor organizations, including city government, private businesses, school districts, health systems, and nonprofits. Our internship programs allow interns to work alongside Fellows to address real-world problems and spark innovation in Northern Indiana.

Internship Description

The enFocus summer internship is a paid opportunity for motivated students and recent graduates. Interns work on at least two projects throughout the summer—one as a lead on an innovation project and one as a team member on a group innovation project. Our innovation projects are based on community needs, which means we have a unique offering of opportunities each year. Some examples of past intern projects are:

  • Working with a local startup to develop a business plan
  • Partnering with City leaders to make recommendations on a sustainable food system
  • Analyzing process data to identify efficiency gains for a manufacturing business
  • Developing a financial sustainability plan for a nonprofit hospital

Summer interns work on projects across Northern Indiana, and depending on your project placement, you will either work out of the enFocus South Bend or enFocus Elkhart office. Regardless of site placement, all interns will go through the same programming and attend events at both sites throughout the summer.

Last but not least, we provide professional development opportunities, including a speaker series from regional business/community leaders during the internship program. As an enFocus intern you will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced team of enFocus Fellows, develop a wide range of professional skills, and make a tangible impact in Northern Indiana.

  • Rising Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students (all majors are considered)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Students must be available to work full-time in the South Bend-Elkhart region for 8 weeks. (May 26th - July 17th, 2020)

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Passion to build a better Northern Indiana through innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Familiarity and/or interest in technology, business, social impact, and community development
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a classroom or previous internship setting
  • Strong technical and analytical skills. Relevant skills include, but are not limited to: data analysis and visualization, business and financial analysis, lean methodologies and process improvement, and market research.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
