Director of Programs

Position Summary

enFocus is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic development in the South Bend-Elkhart, Indiana region. We do this by attracting talent to our Fellowship and internship programs and placing them on impactful projects for regional sponsors in the private, public, and social sectors.


As we continue to grow our enFocus Fellowship and internship programs, we are seeking an experienced program manager to take on a key leadership role. As Director of Programs you will report directly to the Executive Director, and you will be accountable for day-to-day operations of our Fellowship and internship programs—supporting over 20 Fellows and 50 interns annually. This position will have two direct reports from the enFocus operations team, and they will work cross-functionally with enFocus project leadership to oversee budget, staffing and operations to fulfill our sponsor project needs. A successful Director of Programs will ensure a world-class Fellowship and internship experience for our talent, while keeping our internal operations running smoothly.



Human Resources

  • Manage the hiring process for enFocus Fellow and intern cohorts each year
  • Collaborate with project portfolio management to develop staffing and capacity models to inform hiring
  • Provide strategic guidance to the enFocus Talent Coordinator in developing talent acquisition goals and targets
  • Manage the coordination of timely performance reviews for all staff
  • Act as a champion for the enFocus mission and values to ensure that we maintain an excellent organizational culture


  • Develop enFocus annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Provide regular reports on budget and organizational performance to enFocus leadership and the Board
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration for the company
  • Serve as organizational lead for human resource issues and compliance, including local and federal laws
  • Manage enFocus IT and technology systems administration and collaborate with project management to ensure our team has the appropriate tools/processes to succeed
  • Identify and lead special projects to improve operational excellence/efficiency at enFocus


  • Liaise with Fellows and enFocus leadership to ensure that we deliver a world-class Fellowship experience
  • Seek and aggregate feedback from Fellows and interns to inform program improvements
  • Oversee the delivery of impactful programming with the support of other enFocus staff and Fellows, including internal events and external/community events
  • Oversee professional development programming to ensure our Fellows develop skills to succeed on projects and prepare themselves for careers post-enFocus
  • Develop relationships with South Bend-Elkhart community leaders to identify opportunities to collaborate with enFocus


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in an operations, human resources, or program management role
  • Strong experience developing and implementing programs, including managing budget, personnel, and program performance
  • Demonstrated experience managing a hiring pipeline or resource capacity decisions in a previous role
  • Highly skilled people manager with the ability to build strong relationships, build consensus, and coach a team toward common goals
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup or previous technology/consulting experience is a plus.
